In the morning, your guide will be waiting for you in your hotel lobby at 8:30 AM.
You will start your day by visiting the Temple of Heaven, located in the southern part of Beijing. This site, one of the holiest places in China for over five centuries, was where the emperors prayed for peace and good harvests. It served as a complex of sacrificial buildings for the Ming and Qing dynasties. You’ll also have the opportunity to observe how local people exercise in the morning.
Next, you’ll visit the famous Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world. Here, you can take photos in front of the iconic portrait of Chairman Mao, which hangs on the red wall of the Heavenly Peace Gate. Your tour guide will share the history and some intriguing stories about Tiananmen Square.
Afterward, you’ll proceed through the middle gate of Tiananmen Square to see the massive red gate known as the Forbidden City, which is a highlight of your day. The Forbidden City served as the imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. Situated in the heart of Beijing, it has been the Emperor’s palace for nearly five hundred years and was the center of ceremony and policy-making for Chinese authorities.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, you will visit the Summer Palace, located about 12 kilometers northwest of the city center. Equally famous as the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, called “Yiheyuan” in Chinese, is the best-preserved and largest imperial garden in China and a major attraction in Beijing. An optional 10-minute ferry ride on the lake is also available for those interested.
After your visit to the Summer Palace, you will be dropped off at your hotel.
