Reviewed April 30, 2018, via mobile  Sunset tour small group

We had the best time on the sunset tour in a small group. The parts of the wall we went to were not crowded at all, and in the old part of the wall, we were almost the only ones. Unfortunately, we couldn’t see the sunset and it was slightly rainy, but the rain made the place feel even more magical. We had Tony as our guide and we couldn’t be happier with him, nice stories about the wall and Chinese culture and history in general.

The dinner was very good as well, nice to try some food recommended by a local.

I was in contact with Leo about the tour and he was very informative and replied fast to all my messages.

Thank you for making our last day so special! 多谢!

Reviewed October 5, 2018, A long day to the Wall, but worth it!

We did the Great Wall sunset hike to Jinshanling and Gubeikou. We were picked up promptly by Tony, who was a lovely guide. He spoke very good English and had a great sense of humor There were only 3 other people on the tour with us, which was good. The drive out to the Jinshanling part of the Wall was long, because of all the traffic congestion. It was worth it though, as there are hardly any other people at that part of the Wall. We had a great lunch, huge with lots of choices. Beer and other beverages were also included. The second part of the Wall was also enjoyable, again with very few tourists. Unfortunately, Mother Nature didn’t put on a great sunset display but we preferred the later pick-up time and the opportunity to hike the Wall with few other people. Highly recommended, but be prepared for a very long day.

More reviews

How tough is this hike?

This hike is very flexible from 5kms to 10kms. When we get to the Wall, you have free time to enjoy the wall or hike a bit more. It is not tough. Normal sneakers are enough for this hike.

Does the Great Wall we visited full of people?

Both the 2 sections are far away from the City. It is much quiet than Mutianyu and Badaling. Especially when it is not the weekend or Holiday, we were the only group on the wall most of the time.

What time does the tour start and finished?

As the sunset time changed every day, our tour usually starts from 10 am to 11 am. We will back to downtown Beijing 2.5 hours after Sunset. Usually from 8:30 pm to 10 pm.

Do you always get a great sunset view by the tour?

The weather is always unforeseeable and the air may be polluted. We have some pollution in winter, but it is always good in the summertime.

What to take for this hike?

Comfortable shoes or boots is important. We suggest you bring: sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm, cap. If you need hike poles, please let me know 1 day before the tour.

When does the tour have lunch? Is it ok for vegetarians?

Lunch is usually served after the hike around 2 pm. The lunch in summer is always late, as the sunset is after 7:30 pm. Please take some snacks with you. We choose a very nice local restaurant with excellent Chinese food. There are a lot of dishes good for vegetarians.

How many bottles of water do I need to bring?

Unlimited bottles of water are stored in our car/van for you to drink. You need to carry them.

Does the tour happen during the rain or snow?

We only cancel the tour during extreme weather conditions. Otherwise, the tour goes on. Please check the weather report and be prepared.

What is the tipping or gratuities policy?

Tips are always appreciated by our guides but never expected. They should be given if you believe your guide did an outstanding job, and further, if you as an individual want to demonstrate your appreciation for the guide for that job well done. Usually, our clients give 50 to 100RMB per person.

Does this tour go to any shops?

We don’t go to tourist shops, factories, etc., and waste our precious time.
