Drive to the Jinshanling Great Wall (2 hours)

The adventure begins gently at the main gate of Jinshanling, and it takes a short climb up to Zhuanduo tower. Walk eastward and enjoy plenty of photography stops before you reach Simatai west. During this 3 hours hike, you will see the amazing Jinshanling Great Wall and the beautiful nature. Some parts of the wall are a bit steep, so you may need assistance from your hand when you hike up. Our guide will stop at the most beautiful towers and give you enough time to rest and take pictures. 

Late lunch in a local restaurant.

Drive back to your hotel at about 5:30 pm.

Good to know: the Simatai West is not the Simatai Great Wall. The Great Wall tower connects the Simatai and Jinshanling and is blocked. So tourists can only get to the Qilin tower, which is close to the East gate of Jinshanling, and go down from the East 5-eyes tower.

FAQS

How challenging is this hike?
This hiking trail is quite flexible, starting at 7.5 km. If there are individuals in your group who are not fond of hiking long distances, they have the option to take the cable car up and down. Our driver will be waiting to pick you up.

Is the Great Wall we visited full of people?
Jinshanling is 150 km away from Beijing. If there is no big activity, it is very peaceful. There is a marathon every year in April, making visiting hard and crowded.

What time does the tour start and finish?
As a private tour, it is flexible and lasts about 9 hours. If you start the tour at 8 am, you will return to the city around 5 pm.

What to take for this hike?
Comfortable shoes or boots are essential. We suggest you bring sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm, and a cap. If you need hiking poles, please let me know one day before the tour.

When does the tour have lunch? Is it ok for vegetarians?
Lunch is usually served after the hike around 1 pm. We choose a very nice local restaurant with excellent Chinese food. There is a lot of food suitable for vegetarians.

How many bottles of water do I need to bring?
Unlimited water bottles are stored in our car/van, and you must carry them.

Does the tour happen during the rain or snow?
We only cancel the tour during extreme weather conditions. Otherwise, it continues. Please check the weather report and be prepared.

What is the tipping or gratuities policy?
Our guides always appreciate tips, but they are never expected. Tips should be given if you believe your guide did an outstanding job and if you want to demonstrate your appreciation for the guide for that job well done. Usually, our clients give 50 to 100RMB per person.
