Itinerary

9 am
Your guide will welcome you at the meeting point by holding a small flag with “Beijing Walking Tours.”

The tour starts at the East Gate of the Temple of Heaven;

Temple of Heaven is an imperial complex of religious buildings situated in the southeastern part of central Beijing. The Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties visited the complex for annual prayer ceremonies to Heaven for a good harvest. It has been regarded as a Taoist temple, although Chinese Heaven worship pre-dates Taoism, especially by the reigning monarch of the day.

You will see a lot of local activities. This is a great place to see the local people’s life.
Then you can see the beautiful temples and learn about the religions in China. After a 1.5-hour walk in the temple of heaven, you will be led to Tiananmen Square by taking a public bus. Don’t worry, the bus is only 15 minutes and not very crowded.
Our guide will arrange a short break before visiting the palace museum at your request. Or be taken to the old (Qianmen) street to try local food. Our tour guide is flexible to accommodate all the group members.
Tiananmen Square has been the heart of China for over 600 years. After 1/2 hour’s walk at Tiananmen Square and then going through the middle gate of Tiananmen Square, you’ll see a vast red gate that is the entrance of the Forbidden City. Then you will go on a nice walk to see the fantastic imperial city and hear unique stories. You will have a lot of opportunities for beautiful pictures. As the Forbidden City is the busiest tourist site in Beijing, it is always full of people. But with our local experts, we can always guide you to a quiet and nice place for a great photo opportunity.  After 2 hour tour around the Forbidden City, the tour will finish at the north gate.

You can choose to go somewhere else with the help of your guide or keep visiting the Forbidden City on your own in the afternoon.

The Forbidden City close time:

April to October: 17:00

November to March: 16:30

Reviewed September 15, 2018, via mobile Excellent Tour with a Very Knowledgeable Guide

My mom and I did the Beijing Heritage Walking Tour. Our guide’s name was Joe. Joe spoke English very well and was very knowledgeable about everything we saw. He was an excellent guide! The tour went well; we felt like we spent enough time at each place, but the tour wasn’t too long. We saw the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and a market.

Reviewed November 3, 2018Fantastic Beijing walking tours with Joe – highly recommend it!

I was in Beijing for only a weekend in October, so a friend referred me to Beijing Walking Tours to do get a guided tour. I proceeded to book the Private Hutong and Private Heritage tours.

I had an absolutely amazing experience walking through the streets of Beijing with Joe, who gave me a great perspective on traditional Beijing life. All the destinations are truly something special and Joe is very knowledgeable about all of them. He was able to take me to some of the less touristy places and show me the hidden nooks in well-known attractions. He was flexible with the scheduling and route so we could catch the sun setting over the Forbidden City, which was a sight to see.

The booking process was quick and convenient and Joe fetched and took me back to my hotel every time. Money is very well spent. Thank you very much to Joe and Leo for a great time!….More

FAQS:

Does the tour buy tickets online for us before the tour happens?
The Forbidden City is the most popular attraction in Beijing. It receives many tourists every day. Usually, people have to queue to buy the tickets, which will take about at least half an hour! To save you time, your tour guide will buy the tickets online in advance so that you will NOT need to stand in a tedious, long queue. We will buy the tickets for you one day before the tour happens to avoid the long queue. Please send us your passport number with your full name when you book the tour.

What happens if I am late and miss the Group?
We must arrive at the tour starting location at least 10-15 minutes before the start time, as we start the tour promptly. It would be unfair to others if we had to wait for those late. We cannot guarantee you’ll be able to find your tour group if you are late.

How much walking is there on this tour?
There are between 6 and 7 kilometers of walking at a moderate pace. If mobility is an issue, please arrange for a private tour. Please dress appropriately for long-distance walking and the weather.

Does the tour happen during the rain or snow?
We only cancel the tour during extreme weather conditions. Otherwise, the tour goes on. Please check the weather report and be prepared.

Does this tour go to any shops?
We don’t go to tourist shops, factories, etc., and waste our precious time.

How do I pay?
We don’t ask for a deposit; please pay your guide with cash when you meet. We also accept PayPal payments. Our PayPal account is liuguankui@163.com

What is the tipping or gratuities policy?
The tip is always appreciated by our guides but never expected. They should be given if you believe your guide did an outstanding job and, further, if you as an individual want to demonstrate your appreciation to the guide for that job well done. Usually, people give 50 to 100 RMB per person per day.
