Key Points & Route Description

- Start: Panlongshan Great Wall Ticket Office.
- Finish: Jinshanling Scenic Area exit (options: take cable car/shuttle bus down, or walk to the East Gate).
- Route Summary: The hike begins at the Panlongshan ticket office. After about 20 minutes, you reach the wall. Hike east for roughly 1 hour to the 24-Eye Tower. Here, the wall is interrupted by a military restricted area. You must descend onto a mountain trail (you will walk on paths below the wall for about an hour). After approximately 30 minutes, you reach the West Gate of Jinshanling Great Wall. From there, it’s about 40 minutes (1.4 km) to Taochunkou, where you purchase your Jinshanling ticket to enter the restored wall. If tired, you can exit at the nearest point, Zhuanduokou, to reach the main Jinshanling entrance. If energy permits, you can continue hiking to exit at Houchuankou, or even proceed all the way to the scenic area’s East Gate for a total distance of approximately 18 km.
Essential Packing List

· Non-slip hiking shoes (Most important!): Some sections can be slippery.
· Sufficient water (1-2 liters) and high-energy snacks: Stores are available for resupply at the West Gate of Jinshanling, reached after about 1.5 hours of hiking.
· Sun hat, sunglasses, long sleeves/pants: Parts of the route offer no shade.
· Gloves: Protect your hands while scrambling over collapsed sections.
· Some cash: You may need to purchase the Jinshanling ticket at the end.
Practical Tips

· Enter Jinshanling via Taochunkou: The gate closes at 16:00 in summer and 15:30 in winter. If the Taochunkou gate is closed, you must descend to the main Jinshanling entrance and re-ascend to the wall, adding roughly an extra hour to your hike.
Final Reflection

This journey is a temporal dialogue, moving from fragments of history into a postcard-perfect landscape. When you stand atop Jinshanling and look back, every ounce of effort transforms into the unique awe that only the Great Wall can inspire.
